Fingers Crossed

I need good thoughts from my people! A great opportunity presented itself at the company I work for and I jumped at the chance to possibly fill it. Honestly, I hope it works out because it is a wonderful position and would tie my background in teaching to what I am currently doing... best of both worlds. I had my first internal interview this morning and I think it went pretty well. Trust me when I say I gave a shout out to JC right before I went in. It is in His hands now and we will see where He wants to lead me. But, if you all could keep your fingers crossed I would appreciate it (or if you want to throw one up to JC as well) I would be oh-so-grateful!

Now... it's the waiting game. Quite possibly the worst part.

Are You There Followers, It's me Kim

Yeah I know. Long time no type. But to say I have been down and out and a little crazy busy is an understatement. Last week I woke up on Wednesday morning with a fever and a back that hurt like the dickens. It seriously felt like someone had taken a sledge hammer to the small of my back. I knew immediately what it was. You see, I used to work at a daycare and I also used to teach 3rd grade and every year, those boogery kids would give me strep throat and every time I had the same symptoms.

So enter last Sunday when I started volunteering with my church's nursery and it was my very first time keeping the crazy boogery 1 year olds. One kid even felt the need to wipe her snot on the lanyard around my neck. So I really shouldn't have been surprised on Wednesday when I woke up to those all too familiar symptoms. I went to the doctor and she put me on a z-pak pronto. You see, I had no time to be getting sick and I needed to kick it in the butt asap.

My best friends wedding was Saturday, which I was in, so that meant all out wedding mode for Friday and Saturday. Can you see why I had no time to lay on the couch and pout and have my husband bring me stuff? Oh wait, I have time for that everyday... I meant be sick. I had no time to be sick.

Fortunately, I was feeling good by Friday just in time for the bridesmaid brunch, rehearsal, and dinner. The not so great part was that by the end of the long day, I was starting to sound more and more like an 80 year old man that smoked 3 packs a day! Not attractive. By Saturday my voice was gone completely which was no bueno while spending the day with 15 crazy girls and not being able to join in on the hilarity that occurred. I am sure my husband loved it though... you know, not being able to hear my voice for about 48 hours straight...

Anyway, somewhat better now. The wedding was GORGEOUS and my friends day was perfect! Stay tuned for pics!

Living room makeover

So, remember when I told you I sent back our brand new living room furniture? Yeah, well I did. But we got our new-new living room furniture in a couple of weeks ago and it put me in the mood to do some rearranging. Here is a very... ummm... child like rendition of our living room before and after the rearranging. Bare with me people...

You see that big space to the left of the chair... I just felt like it was way too empty. (and please note that these pictures are not to scale :P)  So after I did some rearranging it looked more like this...

That big question mark is a "Why in the world is there that much space there" kind of question mark because in real life it's not really like that. The new layout may look more cramped but it really defines the room and space so much better than to have it open and looking like the furniture doesn't fill the space.

There is still a long way to go but I finally feel like I have a plan and am sticking to it. Our room is Van Courtland from Benjamin Moore and it has a lot of white trim and crown molding. The book cases I am bringing in to the after picture will be painted white with a neutral background color.

Throw in this ottoman and fabric for curtains and I think I just may love my living room... finally!

Sheew... this post took a lot of hard work with the picture uploading. Let me know your thoughts on the whole thing!

We're almost there....

It was this time last year that I was officially counting down to a month before our wedding. That's right, today we have been married 11 months. Where has time gone really? I don't even know.  This year has been wonderful but it hasn't been without its share of annoyances. It really is quite the adjustment when you move in with a boy for the first time. I am most certainly sure that sometimes Nick looks at me like I am the weirdest quirkiest person he has ever met.

Here are a look at our engagement pictures. We loved working with our photographers, Nina and Wes Mullins. They are from Lexington and I loved their work... not to mention they are super nice! You can check out their website at Nina Mullins Photography and you can check out their blog at When We Belong and read all about their recent adoption of two cute sweet babies!

That last one is probably my favorite picture of us. I love it even though he does have on that dirty bird shirt. See, our marriage is definitely full of struggles... how else could a UK fan and UofL fan live under one roof?

Bucket List

A couple of days ago, I was on twitter and saw a tweet about a little girl with cancer. You can find her blog here... Her name is Alice Pyne and she was diagnosed with a form of cancer that is terminal. The whole point of her blog is to write about her Bucket List. Some of the things she put on there she won't be able to accomplish but luckily there are people helping her with the ones she can. I hope she gets to do as many of those things as possible.

But that got me thinking about my bucket list. What do I really want to do before it's too late? I know I'm young but really no one knows when our time here will be gone and it got me wondering what I really want to do before its too late... while I am young enough to enjoy most things.

So here is my goal list of things I want to really do... the sooner the better :)

1. Become a mom
2. Travel to Europe (mostly Greece, Italy, France, England)
3. Take cooking classes
4. Go skydiving
5. Learn another language (my 4 years of high school French are lost)
6. Start throwing a yearly New Years Eve bash at our house (complete with hats and confetti)
7. Visit Boston, Chicago (again), New York City, Washington DC, Vegas, Napa
8. Learn how to sew
9. Go on several mission trips
10. Learn sign language
11. Go on a safari in Africa
12. Ride in a hot air balloon
13. swim with dolphins
14. Live in Charleston, SC
15. Have a Christmas tree in every room of my house...complete with themes :)

Some of those are pretty major and will require some moolah (sorry Nick) but others I could do if I just took the initiative to do it but its hard to take initiative when you think you have all the time in the world to do it. My goal is to at least start on 2 of these this year. Personally I tried to talk the hubs into dipping into savings and go a head and check off that number 2. Uh he didn't agree with my plan! :) Oh well, maybe one day...

Do some of the things on my list match yours? Would you put something different on yours? Please share because I would love to know!

HHI A Trip in Pictures

See, at least you know I fulfill my promises and it may not have been yesterday but its first thing this morning! I had to figure out how to steal these pictures from a shutterfly album and it presented quite the challenge at first! ha

This is before the 9 hour road trip began... their car was packed. Our car, was bigger and better, plus we had April which proves to be about 9 hours of entertaining goodness.

We stayed at the Marriot Resort right on the beach. We had the top floor suite. Yay for us... boo for every room that surrounded us! :)

The Bachlorette gave each girl a monogrammed beach towel and a sand bucket. Not pictured is our bubba kegs that everyone got too!

Emily, McCourt, and Katheryn super excited about the loot!

That's me on the bottom row second from the left. It's one of the only pics with me in it... (remember these weren't from my camera)

Those pictures were all from Friday night when we got there at about 9:30 at night. The next day we woke up bright and early to hit the pool and the beach. The weather was PeRfEcT the whole time we were there... I'm talking 90 and not a cloud in the sky.

Where we spent the majority of our day! We had such a large group (15) that we kind of took over...

Saturday night we had a dinner catered to our room and then had Em's personal shower. After that we made our way to the Triangle to go out. We found the best outdoor patio bar with a guy on the guitar. It proved to be a great night.

Sunday was more sunbathing (and some where nursing hangovers, who are we kidding here?) Me, not so much, as I was up at 6:45 ready to go to the beach. My roommates were less than thrilled with my  eager early morning attitude. Right, April? :)

Sunday night we went to the Frosty Frog before heading to Harbortown for a really nice dinner on the water. Frosty Frog has machine after machine of mixed frozen drinks with alcohol and I'm talking 110 proof here people... or at least that is what the machines said. I got the banana one...so so good.

These were only a few of the pictures (I couldn't show the not so appropriate ones) but at least I got them on here... it was quite the chore to screen shot my iphone, email them to myself, copy them onto my computer, then upload them all here. Shoo. I'm sure someone is probably reading this thinking there is an easier way to do that... and if you are, do enlighten me to help a sista out!

No Excuses

Sorry I have been MIA. With good intentions, I really did mean to post about HHI after I got back. For some reason though, I feel like my world is just jam packed right now. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the places I get to go with my friends and my family and the parties and celebration that come with the summer season... I really do love it all! For instance, tonight I have a marriage date night at church with my husband, then tomorrow I have to go shopping to get a bridal shower present for the shower I have to attend in the afternoon, not to mention I have a hair appointment in between there somewhere (which btw I just found out my girl is going back to Florida and I could probably dedicate a whole post about how upset I am about it), then on Sunday is the typical church day with lunch and grocery. Geez Louise where did my weekend go?

So.... as you can see my schedule is pretty full and it looks that way up until August. Literally something all week so admittedly I have plenty to blog about just no time to do it! Sooorryyy :)

I'll do better, promise. As a matter of fact I WILL get those HHI pictures posted today...maybe even when I go home for lunch! I wish I could post them all but some are just a little..... ummm... inappropriate with our party decorations and all :)

xoxo

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone else as annoyed as I am?

Love Letters

Last week I talked a little about my trip to Hilton Head with the girls (which was crazy fun btw); but what I didn't tell you was that while I was preparing to leave on Friday, my husband had been in Boston for that whole week prior (Monday through Thursday). Fortunately he only travels every now and then and it's not an all too often thing because I hate it when I am in the house alone. Cah-reepy. Anyway, I basically got to see my husband for a total of 4 hours last week. Boo. I missd him.

Before we got married we took our premarital classes through our church at Southeast Christian (aka Six Flags over Jesus) and the program we went through was a huge blessing. Not only did we go through group classes but we also got marriage mentors that we met with for about 6 weeks. One thing our mentors suggested doing was keeping a notebook to write in throughout our marriage. In it we could write each other letters filled with only good stuff and the idea is to look at it when times get tough or it will be something our kids will have one day when we are gone.

On the day of our wedding I handed Nick our notebook with the first love letter from me. Admittedly there is no set schedule for the letters or no turn taking... we just write when we feel like it. Imagine my surprise when I wake up on Tuesday after I get back from my trip and peep in the notebook to find a letter from my husband telling me how much he missed me while we were apart. Melt. My. Heart.

I know some may think this is cheesy but seriously people, how cute is it to think that one day our children will have a keepsake of our marriage. Not only that, but you can't help but read what your husband wrote and it put a huge smile on your face. It seriously does. It's not all gushy and mushy... sometimes it could be that I thank him for helping in the yard and taking care of things that needed fixing. I really believe it is important to share the things you appreciate in your spouse.

I just thought I would share about how blessed I am to have a husband that tells me he misses me when I am gone. Although I am sure the letter thing is not for everyone, it is something special so I wanted to share just in case you think it is too! :)
